Walk
Come join us on the second Thursday of every month! The Blitz Capitol Hill Arts Walk is a self-directed event rather than an organized walk with a guide. One way to get started is to review the event descriptions, view the map, circle venues of interest and just head out. Or pick a zone (Broadway, 15th, lower Pike/Pine, upper Pike/Pine, etc.) and wander.
Keep in mind that some venues are open later than 8pm; venues with later hours are noted in the online venue listings. Create opportunity for serendipity and visit the venues surrounding your planned destinations--you never know what you may find.
Host
Blitz welcomes new venues to the Arts Walk. There is a nominal fee to participate, which covers event promotional printing and other promotional costs. Host venues make their own arrangements for art shows and performance events. We request that the event be free and open during the art walk hours. Please contact us (CapitolHillArtsWalk - at - gmail - dot - com) for more information on becoming a Blitz venue.
Show
Artists, musicians, buskers and other performing arts participate in Blitz through independent arrangements. Blitz organizers do not manage or arrange arts walk programming. Rather, hosting venues make arrangements directly with the artist or performer. If you are interested in getting booked into a Blitz Arts Walk venue, we recommend you review the venue list, visit some venues which may be a good fit for your style, and inquire.
Street sellers, performers, and other buskers are welcome and encouraged to participate in the Capitol Hill Blitz Arts Walk, however Blitz does not have a designated space for selling or busking. Please comply with city regulations when joining us on Arts Walk night.
Volunteer
Blitz is run entirely by volunteers. Local business owners, artists and residents have joined together to put on this community wide monthly event on Capitol Hill. Outdoors or in, social or behind the scenes, talker or writer - - we have all sorts or ways you can help in as few as three hours a month. If you would like to join up and be a part of this amazing team please contact us (CapitolHillArtsWalk - at - gmail - dot - com). More volunteers are always welcome!
The Blitz Capitol Hill Arts Walk is engaging and entertaining for enthusiastic attendees, businesses, and artists in our vibrant, quirky, artsy neighborhood. Blitz is produced by the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce to highlight the collection of artistic expression in our eclectic neighborhood, to create an entertaining monthly event for residents, and to support the local businesses.
Given that so many artists and musicians are living, working and playing on Capitol Hill, our coffee shops, bars, restaurants, boutiques, galleries and music venues are infused with the local showings of talent. Blitz is different than other art walks because many of our participating venues are not galleries, but are the businesses on each block.
Capitol Hill art walks have had many incarnations over the years. The current art walk has been running continuously since August 2006. At that time it was started up by a handful of local business owners and employees who wanted to create a community event and showcase the artists they had showing in their stores. Originally the 2Tue Art Walk, this event was on the 2nd Tuesday of each month and had about a dozen participating venues. In January 2009, the day was switched to Thursdays to attract more participating venues. Although there was a day change and a name change at that time, the same volunteers organized it and the same businesses continued to participate. In June 2009 the arts walk was relaunched as Blitz with the support of the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce.
